As you start reading this Guidelines for Authors, we believe that you are willing to submit a manuscript for the upcoming issue of the Journal of Education and Research published by the School of Education, Kathmandu University, Nepal. When submitting your manuscript, please consider that the audience of this Journal is international and range from academicians to professionals, researchers, teachers, students and others. JER publishes only the original research and review articles (5000 â€“ 7000 words) presenting theoretical/practical discussion of current relevance. However, it does not publish short-notes, reflective notes, book reviews and abstracts of student research works.
JER is a refereed journal which follows a double-blind peer-review process. All articles in this journal undergo rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and refereeing by two anonymous reviewers. The review process may take from two to three months. See the manuscript handling flow chart below.
All manuscripts submitted to JER are strictly assumed that they are not submitted, partly or wholly anywhere else, nor are they currently being considered for publication or in process of publication elsewhere. It is also strictly assumed that the manuscripts are not already published fully or partly anywhere, in print or electronic media. Likewise, when authors submit their manuscripts, they declare that their manuscripts are their own writing and that there are no plagiarized texts in any form either from published or unpublished sources. The authors should fully honour othersâ€™ copyright.
It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure the accuracy of facts, information, or the content in their paper. Their paper should not contain any illegal, unauthorized, and unethical content. The corresponding author should ensure that the manuscriptâ€™s publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities â€“ tacitly or explicitly â€“ at the institute where the work has been carried out. Moreover, all the ideas, discussions, analyses, conclusions drawn in the paper are solely of the authors and thus they should take all the responsibilities of whatsoever is written in their papers and thus they will have nothing to do with the Publisher (the School of Education, Kathmandu University) and the members of the Editorial Team. The School of Education, Kathmandu University and the members of the Editorial Team will not be held responsible should there be any claims for compensation.
When preparing your manuscript, please consider the following:
- The paper must be in English language and should consist of 5000 to 7000 words including abstracts, references, and notes. Properly linked and appropriately-sized diagrams, pictures, etc. may be included.
- Please give particular attention to making your language non-discriminatory in any way. Avoid sexist and racist terms and adhere to the basic ethical principle of no harm.
- In case copyrighted materials are to be reproduced, it is the responsibility of the authors to obtain permission to reproduce the copyrighted materials. Include the copyright permission letter while submitting such paper.
- By submitting manuscript to the Journal of Education and Research, the authors fully agree that the copyright of all published papers remain with the Journal.
- When the paper is published, all authors are entitled to getting one copy each free of charge. The authors should be clear that they will not get any payment on the publication of their paper. Neither does the Journal charge fee for publishing the paper.
- The paper should be sent online via Online Submission Portal as a standard attached file in MS Word. In case, you could not submit it via online submission portal, you may send an attached email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The attached file should be named with your family name and initials and the date (do not use period or blank space). The date is when you email the manuscript and should be in ddmmyy format (example: ParajuliMN240817).
- In case there are figures, charts, photos, paints, etc., submit them as separate files. Name these files the same as your manuscript file but add â€˜attach1â€™, â€˜attach2â€™, etc. (example: ParajuliMN240817attach1).
- Final decisions on acceptance of the manuscript will be communicated to the authors by email.
- As far as available, insert the DOIs for the articles in the reference list.
Page Layout and Design

The title page should include:
- Running head (Shortened TITLE (max. 50 characters) of the paper at the header space in UPPER CASE)
- A concise and informative title
- The name(s) of the author(s)
- The affiliation(s), address(es), and email address(es) of the author(s)
- The date you submit your paper
Note: Place author information on a new line below the title in the order of your name (first name, middle names, surname; on a new line â€“ institution, town/city and country; and on a new line your email address. No other details, please. In case there are multiple authors, give information of the lead author first and subsequently of other authors.
Add an asterisk (*) after the name of the corresponding author. Generally, lead authors are the corresponding authors but it may not be necessary.
The second page is the â€˜Abstractâ€™ page. Type Abstract (centred) in bold face, and on the next line begin the abstract text (without indentation). The abstract should be of about 200 words. This page should also have 4-5 keywords, placed immediately below the abstract. The abstract should contain no undefined abbreviations and acronyms.
Manuscripts should be submitted in the following format:
- Manuscript should be submitted as Word (.doc or .docx) file.
- Use 12-point Times New Roman font for text throughout your paper.
- Text should be aligned left.
- Lines should be double spaced.
- Leave margin of one-inch on all sides.
- Indent paragraphs (half-inch). Use tab stops or other commands for indents, not the space bar.
- Insert page number (top right corner) on all pages. The numbers should be Arabic numerals.
- Tables should where possible be created simply using the MS Word Table function. All tables must be numbered and set flush left. On a new line give the Title of the table (heading style capitalization). If necessary give Table notes immediately below the table. Table number, title, and notes should be double spaced. However, contents within the tables are to be single spaced.
- Illustrations and figures must be submitted as JPEG or PDF files clearly indicating where they are to be inserted. All illustrations must also be numbered and captioned.
- Use the equation editor or MathType for equations.
- For emphasis, please use italics, not bold or underline. Similarly, italics should also be used for non-English words, titles of books, plays, etc.
- Use two spaces after the end of the sentence. After the full stop, after the question mark, and after the exclamatory sign. However, use only one space after comma, colon, semicolon, and after period with initials (e.g., M. N. Parajuli). Do not give any space in abbreviations (e.g., Ph.D., p.m., etc.).
- Abbreviations/ acronyms should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter.
- Use no more than three levels of displayed headings.

- Endnotes can be used to provide additional information. Endnotes to the text are numbered consecutively. Footnotes belonging to the tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significant values and other statistical data) and placed directly underneath the table. However, for other additional information to the text, always use endnotes instead of footnotes.
- Acknowledgments of people, grants, funds, etc. should be placed in a separate section before the reference list.
The simple practice of in-text citation follows the author/date format. To cite a specific part of a source, indicate the page, chapter, figure, table, or equation at the appropriate point in text. Always give page numbers for quotations. Example: Gnawali (2008) says, â€œIn the teaching profession, the pedagogic knowledge and skills a trainee teacher gets at the training college are not sufficient for his life long careerâ€ (p. 219). When paraphrasing or summarising, page number is not necessary. Example: It has also been noted that the knowledge and skills teachers acquire during their college days are not enough for their future career (Gnawali, 2008). References is the listing of all citations made in the text of the paper. At the end of your main text, on a new page, type â€˜Referencesâ€™, centred, and list all citations in the alphabetical order. No materials should be included in the list that are not cited in the text.

The article will be published online ahead of print after receipt of the corrected proofs. This is the official first publication citable with the Digital Object Identifier (DOI). After release of the printed version, the paper can also be cited by page numbers.
We publish the articles only after the corresponding author ensures that the accepted (and revised) manuscript has been copyedited and proofread thoroughly. After online publication, further changes can only be made in the form of an Erratum, a separate document which will be hyperlinked to the article.
Please note that JER uses Crossref Similarity Check software to screen papers for unoriginal material. By submitting your paper to JER you are agreeing to any necessary originality or plagiarism checks your paper may have to undergo during the peer review and production processes. In case of duplicate submission, fabricated data, breach of participantsâ€™ confidentiality, improper award or denial of authorship, and plagiarised texts, we warn the author(s) for misconduct and may allow rework. But if so is found in the resubmission, we will consider that deliberate and thus bar the author for submitting any (including original) article to JER for three years.
